Benefits of holy habits?

Do you realize the benefits from developing habits of prayer or Bible reading? Dr David Murray has posted his thoughts on FOUR ways we benefit from the holy habits of prayer, Bible reading, and meditation:

1. They become hard not to do

2. They improve our feelings

3. They shape character

4. They reveal Christ to the soul

On that last point he writes, “What a blessing holy habits are. Yes, at times they may become rather mechanistic and ritualistic, no matter how hard we fight this. I’m sure Daniel had days like this too. But if we prayerfully persevere in them, as Daniel did, we will be made wise unto salvation and know Christ in deeper and deeper ways.”

Are you due some discipline?

“If you are a child of God then you are certainly going to be disciplined, because God is preparing you for holiness. He is not an indulgent father who hands out sweets indiscriminately and does not care what happens to us. God is holy, and He is preparing us for Himself and for glory; and because we are what we are, and because sin is in us, and because the world is what it is, we must needs be disciplined. So He sends us trials and tribulations in order to pull us up, and to conform us to ‘the image of His Son’.”
