Unfashionable? I hope so…

9781601420855mI’ve just begun a new book (hot of the press) by on of the grandsons of Billy Graham, a young pastor named Tullian Tchividijian (pronounced cha-vih-jin). The book is titled UNFASHIONABLE, Making A Difference in the World By Being Different.

It appears to decry the all-too-common trend seen in most modern churches of chasing what is “fashionable” as defined by the world. It reminds us of the fundamental call of Jesus to follow Him, even when it means being ‘counter-cultural’ — or, as Tchividjian would say, unfashionable. Good stuff I’d say.

On one front page he quotes Spurgeon:

“The great guide of the world is fashion and its god is respectability — two phantoms at which brave men laugh! How many of you look around on society to know what to do? You watch the general current and then float upon it! You study the popular breeze and shift your sails to suit it. True men do not so! You ask, ‘Is it fashionable? If it isfashionable, it must be done.’ Fashion is the law of multitudes, but it is nothing more than the common consent of fools.”

I’ll try to post more in the next couple of weeks (using the tag ‘unfashionable’). You can see a sample pdf from the book here, or order it most anywhere (WTS has a great price at present).

Shocking new US view on “Extremists”

16_12_45-storm-clouds_web1It appears our government not only wants to spend our country into poverty, but now wants to squash civil rights for the sake of defending the homeland. (If that later part sounds like an old critique against President Bush by the left, its not; read on!).

According to a published report of the Dept. of Homeland Security, the government has now instructed local law enforcement officials to monitor a whole new group of “rightwing extremists” — including normal citizens who happen to be against abortion!

The Washington Times has this online…

The Department of Homeland Security is warning law enforcement officials about a rise in “rightwing extremist activity,” saying the economic recession, the election of America’s first black president and the return of a few disgruntled war veterans could swell the ranks of white-power militias.

A footnote … defines “rightwing extremism in the United States” as including not just racist or hate groups, but also groups that reject federal authority in favor of state or local authority.

“It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single-issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration,” the warning says.

Fox News online also reports that AMERICAN VETERANS returning home from overseas may be terror suspects!:

A footnote in the report, “Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment,” said that while there is no specific information that domestic right-wing terrorists are planning acts of violence, such acts could come from unnamed “rightwing extremists” concerned about illegal immigration, abortion, increasing federal power and restrictions on firearms — and singled out returning war veterans as susceptible to recruitment.

No joke (although the government’s spin masters are trying to back away from the April 7th report). Something is very wrong. Let those who value liberty and freedom stand up and be counted! Make your voice heard.
