Great God of grace — are You for real??

As I have gotten to know the God of the Bible, my sense of awe has only grown. The more I see my short-comings (even as a Christian seeking to be faithful), and also see the beautiful perfections of the Lord our God, it is amazing to think He has anything to do with us. It is jaw-dropped amazing that a holy God could really bring any fallen human being into heaven for an eternity with Him!

Yet such awe is not new. In the latter days of the Old Testament, a minor prophet named Micah stopped everything to observe aloud:

“Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry for ever but delight to show mercy. 19 You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea” (7:18-19).

It was the great, early-American preacher Samuel Davies, who used this text in the refrain of his famous hymn, “Great God of Wonders.” (if you do not know this hymn, google it!).

Pause and ponder the greatness of our God: He IS for REAL.
Praise Him with me!

Jesus IS Jehovah God!

I’ve just been chatting with an older middle-aged couple at my door. They were hoping to invite me to a special event at their place of worship. They were “Jehovah Witnesses” with their translation of the Bible under their arms, and winsome, kind smiles on their faces.

That is, until I told them point blank that Jesus is Jehovah — and they were servants of a lie, promoting a false Jesus who could save no one from their sins!

They insisted that Jesus was not God, but someone lesser. They quoted several NT Scriptures from memory (and questioned if the Trinity is taught in the OT). In their sincerity and soft-spoken use of Bible verses they were much like the one they were serving today (the father of lies, the devil, who can appear as an angel of light).

But they had no reasonable explanation for the Scriptures I pointed them to, wanting instead to get back to their favorites. They were not seeking the truth, but seeking others to entangle in their lies and religion of works.

Do YOU know their lies? Are you prepared to explain the truth from the Scriptures? Or, would your fumbling to defend what you believe only undermine your testimony? One of many web sites that can help you is linked below:

The Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry

By the way, when you hold your ground and defend the divinity of Jesus Christ, they may turn and attack you for not serving Him well. They asked why if I believe He is Lord, and returning soon, why I had not visited them with this truth? I thank the Lord that I could answer that I do share my faith regularly, and give away literature, and am active at my church (and that I have visited nearly every home in my neighborhood). What would you say at that point?

There is only one true view of Jesus in the Bible: He is LORD, one in essence with the Father and the Holy Spirit. If He is anything less (even the archangel Michael turned perfect man — as the JW’s advocate), then He is not able to save anyone else from their sin. Know the truth. Tell the truth.

Yours by divine mercy,
