Bible Reading – Aloud?

Every even-numbered year I encourage our congregation to read through the entire Bible. Some Christians have yet to read the whole Bible, no less in one year. It’s not easy, but it is important, and profitable.

This morning’s reading led me to some interesting thoughts that might help us. Try reading aloud. Justin Taylor’s blog cites the esteemed Dr J I Packer on the old practice of reading (and praying) aloud. I encourage you to check it out.

There is also a reference to the ESV website, where you can only read the Word, but click on a link and hear it read to you. Check out Psalm 1 there.

Read the Word. Do not grow weary, but drink deeply – and live!

Holy Week: A Bird’s–eye view

Modern technology and biblical data have combined to produce a wonderful interactive MAP OF HOLY WEEK EVENTS (here) at a Google web page. It is worth a look. I suggest that once it is open, you zoom in to see the overview, then (in the left hand margin) click through the A-B-C…. markers, and read the pop-up text boxes. They cover the arrival of Jesus in Bethany (just east of the city), His triumphal entry, on through to Golgotha, burial and resurrection sites (although we do not know some of these for certain, these seem like reasonable choices to me).

May the Lord bless you as you spend time in His Word too, today.
